What Is Cannabigerol (CBG)?

Cannabigerol acid (CBGA), an acidic form of cannabinol is the main ingredient in all cannabis plants. It’s sometimes referred to as the “mother” because it is the acidic form in which cannabinoids, such as CBD or THC are extracted by decarboxylation. This converts it into the medicinal compounds called cannabinoids.

Cannabis plant breeders have been selecting for higher levels of CBG in recent times, since research has found low levels in several strains. This can explain why some people feel more relaxed than other varieties.

CBG-based products for consumers have few benefits and are generally costly. But this may alter as more people realize the benefits it offers with regards to health improvement. These items are more popular than products made of pure CBD oil due to the potential benefits for medical use.

How CBG Is Made

Cannabidiol or CBD for short is derived from cannabis plants that are young because they contain higher amounts of this chemical when compared to fully developed ones. Certain varieties like “White CBG” were specifically bred to produce higher levels of cannabigerol acid, a chemical that has demonstrated great potential for treating various diseases without psychoactivity at all.

Cannabis plants are complicated beings. There are many components that work together to produce the desired results, such as cannabinoids & terpenes. However, at times, these parts clash with each other because they want to have control over specific aspects of the plant’s growth or wage a war for yield vs. potency. This is what we’ll discuss next time.

How CBG works

The endocannabinoid is responsible for keeping you healthy, regardless of external influences. It acts as a safeguard that can provide help when we require it or are faced with external pressures. The cannabinoids found in our bodies can mimic natural compounds, so they perform the same function as those that come from another part of our body.

The body has receptors for cannabinoid substances.

CBD (Cannabidiol) is an unpsychoactive substance that is of cannabis plants that contains properties that help with nausea, pain and many other issues. It’s an anti-inflammatory healthy hormone for the immune system that doesn’t cause the “high” similar to THC. But, CBD won’t cause any brain-altering effects, and you’ll feel better.

CBG may have benefits

1. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

Researchers from America have demonstrated that specific cannabis-based compounds can reduce inflammation. The research was carried out in a study on rats, and was published in 2013, but has only recently come under the spotlight of the scientific community.

2. Glaucoma

The research has proven that CBG can be used as a therapeutic treatment for cats who suffer from glaucoma. The researchers administered the CBG to cats and observed decreased blood pressure and increased flow of fluids. That’s a wonderful thing.

3. Huntington’s Disease

In 2015, researchers found that CBG could be used together with other cannabinoids along with terpenes , such as myrcene and Linalool to shield nerve cells from damage caused by Huntington’s Disease. They also demonstrated improved motor skills and also protected the striatal nerves from 3N-propionic Acid toxicity. This is a well-established model.

4. Antibacterial Properties

The antibiotic potential of cannabis is still being explored but early studies have found that CBG, an active ingredient in marijuana with antibacterial properties against methicillin-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), causes rapid bacterial death by breaking down cell walls.
